MOONLIGHTING: THOUGHTS OF CAVENDISH

(2021, CGI, pigment ink on rag paper, 44 * 30 inch, ed. 7)

MOONLIGHTING: DANCE BY LUNAR POLARITY

(2017, 360º Virtual Reality work, loop, dimensions variable)

In the words of

CHRISTIAN ROTHMALER

artist and curator

”… While the sacred beetle turns around and around, the score, a quiet crackling noise, gradually transforms into a romantic song from the 50s — THAT FEELING IN THE MOONLIGHT by GENE KRUPA.

But this is only part of the scenery. Behind the viewer’s back, there is a second beetle, pinned alive, turning around its own axis. Is it the work of an entomologist, ready to perform all sorts of cruelties in the name of science? Or is it a child’s attempt to capture the beauty of the beetle and thereby learning a lesson about life?..."

Boarded up window atop the SMOKE SHOP on 70 North Street, Owego, NY, one door up from the home of the future Signal Culture. This wooden texture was mapped onto a digital elevation model (DEM) of the Säntis Mountain massive in the north eastern part of Switzerland, simulating the view from the room where the VR piece was shown.

RALPH’s chair appropriated as a texture for the model of a chair in my virtual kitchen.
